Classification & types
VVGng power cable and its variants
The base mark is VVGng(A) — copper conductors, PVC insulation and sheath, non-flame-spreading on a single run. VVGng(A)-LS — same plus low smoke and gas emission (mandatory in public buildings). VVGng(A)-FRLS — fire-resistant + LS, for fire-safety systems.
Aluminium AVVG
Cheaper than copper but requires a larger cross-section for the same load. Used in trunk feeders to houses, 0.66—1 kV power circuits.
Flexible KG-XL
Multi-strand conductors in a rubber sheath. For mobile installations: welding sets, portable equipment, temporary connections. “-XL” — cold-resistant version.
NYM
European-standard DIN VDE cable for indoor wiring. Convenient for laying in drywall.
Self-supporting insulated (SIP)
For 0.4—10 kV overhead lines. Replaces old uninsulated aluminium wires — safer, more reliable, no cross-arms required.
Installation wire
PV-1 (single-core solid), PV-3 (flexible multi-strand), PVS (connection), PUNP (flat installation). For indoor wiring to outlets and switches.

Selection guide
- Private house — VVGng(A) or VVGng-LS; LS is mandatory by Kazakh code in apartments
- Apartment building — VVGng(A)-LS is mandatory
- Shopping centres, schools, hospitals, metro — VVGng(A)-LS; FRLS for fire lines
- Welding stations, temporary connections — KG, or KG-XL for winter work
- Overhead lines in rural areas — SIP-2 (on poles) or SIP-4 (along façades)
- Connecting household appliances — PVS 3×1.5 or 3×2.5
- More in the guide “VVGng vs. VVGng-LS”
Shipping documents
EAEU conformity certificate (mandatory for regulated nomenclature). Factory test reports. For FRLS fire lines — a separate fire-safety certificate.
Storage, acceptance, transport
- Drums or coils — on edge, not flat
- Storage in a dry place without temperature swings
- Do not unwind the drum prematurely — this disturbs insulation geometry
- When laying in cold weather — the cable must be warmed to at least +5°C
FAQ
Q. Can aluminium AVVG be used in an apartment?
No. Kazakh and Russian codes have prohibited aluminium wiring in residential premises since 2003. Only copper — VVGng(A)-LS, NYM or PVS.
Q. Which cross-section for a 7 kW cooktop?
Copper cable 3×6 mm² minimum, preferably 3×10 mm², in conduit or chase. Breaker C32A. Final selection — by the electrical design.
Q. How many metres in a coil of VVGng 3×2.5?
The standard coil is 100 m. Drums — 250—500 m. For large projects we cut to length on request.
